A four-member faculty delegation from the University of Northern Philippines–College of Architecture is set to conclude its Erasmus+ KA171 Staff Mobility for Teaching engagement at the prestigious Politecnico di Milano, where they have been immersed in academic exchanges and collaborative activities since November 17. The program, which runs until November 25, 2025, marks a significant milestone in strengthening international partnerships and enhancing the college’s global academic exposure.
The delegation, composed of Dr. Fatima Nicetas Alonzo, Ar. Julius Artates, Ar. Mon-Cres Toje, and Ar. Ludivina Lozano, has spent the past week engaging in a series of academic meetings, lectures, and laboratory visits at Politecnico di Milano. Their activities aim to deepen institutional collaboration, foster knowledge exchange, and explore innovative approaches in architectural education between the University of Northern Philippines and the renowned Italian university.
The Erasmus+ KA171 Staff Mobility for Teaching program officially commenced on November 18, as a delegation from the University of Northern Philippines engaged in high-level discussions with Professor Nora Lombardini and PhD candidate Miriam Terezoni. The opening session focused on safeguarding historic urban centers in seismic-prone areas, providing the delegation with an in-depth introduction to Italy’s innovative approaches to heritage conservation and risk-responsive architectural practice.
On November 19 and 20, the delegation explored prominent research facilities, including the Materials Testing Laboratory, and participated in an observational session conducted by Professor Nora Lombardini. These activities offered the team valuable insights into cutting-edge research methodologies and laboratory practices that define European approaches to architectural studies.
On November 21, the delegation expanded its academic engagement with a visit to ABC Laboratories, coupled with strategic discussions involving officials from the International Relations Office, the Dean of the Department of Architecture, Built Environment and Construction Engineering (dABC), and representatives from the university’s Erasmus Office. The meetings centered on exploring opportunities for enhanced academic exchanges and collaborative projects, strengthening ties between the institutions.
To further contextualize their academic experience, the group joined a city tour of Milan on November 22, exploring historical sites and contemporary architectural landmarks.
On November 24, the UNP faculty delegation participated in a joint wrap-up session with officials from Politecnico di Milano, reviewing the week’s activities and finalizing arrangements for the forthcoming UNP–Polimi Joint Seminar. The delegation is scheduled to return to the Philippines on November 25.
The University of Northern Philippines highlighted that this Erasmus+ KA171 Staff Mobility initiative underscores its commitment to strengthen international partnerships and broaden global academic opportunities for the College of Architecture.
