The University of Northern Philippines (UNP) College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) conducted “The Safe Headspace: A Mental Health Project,” a whole-day team-building activity and promotional meeting on December 15, 2025, at the CTech Building. The activity brought together faculty members and non-teaching personnel from the different departments of the college.
Organized by CAS in collaboration with the BS Psychology and Master of Arts in Guidance and Counseling (MAGC) programs, the initiative aimed to strengthen the sense of community, cooperation, and shared purpose among CAS personnel. Through structured team-building activities, reflective sessions, and collaborative challenges, participants were encouraged to connect beyond their formal roles and foster stronger interpersonal relationships.
In his message, OIC Dean Dr. Remigio Obrero highlighted the importance of prioritizing mental health in the academic workplace. He emphasized that a healthy working environment is built on understanding, empathy, and mutual respect among colleagues. Dr. Obrero further encouraged faculty and staff to view mental wellness not only as an individual responsibility but also as a collective commitment of the college, highlighting that effective collaboration and open communication are vital in achieving institutional goals.
The activity strengthened the college’s commitment to promoting mental health and well-being, in line with the University’s advocacy for employee and student wellness and its support for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being. It also reflected CAS’s ongoing efforts to cultivate an inclusive and supportive work environment that upholds gender equality, collaboration, and quality service.
In the afternoon, the program transitioned into a promotional meeting, during which faculty members discussed upcoming college activities and recommended candidates for graduation for the first term of School Year 2025–2026. This session provided a venue for collaborative planning and reinforced shared accountability among the departments.
Overall, The Safe Headspace served as a meaningful platform for reflection, dialogue, and collaboration, reaffirming the College of Arts and Sciences’ commitment to holistic development, mental wellness, and a resilient academic community.
