The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) officially opened its week-long celebration of its 60th Founding Anniversary on January 27, 2026, at the University of Northern Philippines, with administrators, faculty members, staff, students, and guests taking part in the milestone event.
The opening day featured a Holy Mass, followed by a parade with street dancing, and an opening program, formally launching a series of activities lined up for the week in celebration of six decades of academic excellence and service.
Anchored on the theme “Six Decades of Excellence in the Arts and Sciences: Honoring the Past, Empowering the Present, and Inspiring the Future,” the celebration aims to recognize the College’s enduring contributions to instruction, research, and community engagement, while inspiring future generations to uphold the values and standards of the institution.
In her message, Dr. Grace A. Garcia, Officer-in-Charge Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, emphasized that the anniversary is not only a celebration of longevity but also a tribute to the people who have shaped the College through the years. She highlighted the dedication of faculty members, staff, students, and alumni whose collective efforts have sustained the College’s tradition of excellence and service.
Meanwhile, Dr. Rolando B. Navarro, Vice President for Academic Affairs, underscored the vital role of the College of Arts and Sciences as the academic foundation of the University. He noted that CAS has consistently produced graduates equipped with critical thinking skills, scientific competence, and humanistic values, and encouraged the academic community to continue advancing quality instruction, research, and innovation.
During the opening program, the College also recognized its recent achievers, particularly those who successfully passed the Bar Examination, the Psychometrician Licensure Examination, and the Registered Guidance Counselors Licensure Examination, highlighting the College’s commitment to academic excellence and professional competence.
In the afternoon, the celebration continued with Laro ng Lahi, where faculty members, staff, and students actively participated in traditional Filipino games that brought energy and laughter to the campus. The activity fostered camaraderie and teamwork across departments, while also promoting cultural appreciation and a shared sense of belonging within the CAS community.
The week-long celebration will feature a range of academic, cultural, and institutional activities that honor the College’s rich history, highlight its present achievements, and inspire future directions in the Arts and Sciences.
