CBAA team pushes two entries in nat’l startup tilt

Not just one but two!

After the win of students at the College of Business Administration and Accountancy last year, UNP is again at the roster of finalists of the 18th Business Idea and Development Award (BIDA) of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

This year’s iteration has elevated two entries of the same team, composed of Frenzy Dale S. Pagdato (BS Accountancy) and Alberto B. Pacano (BS Entrepreneurship) and coached by faculty member Aris T. Piamonte.

Pagdato and Pacano’s entries were among the qualifiers announced on August 30. Oyst’r Co. is one of the eight qualifiers in the food category, while BNN Collection is also among the eight contenders in the non-food category.

Both categories showcase innovative business ideas from universities and colleges nationwide. Below are descriptions of their two projects:

BNN’ ECOllection is a pioneering sustainable product design dedicated to reducing environmental impact by utilizing “banana trunks” as a primary material. As the environmental impacts of plastic pollution, deforestation, and the extensive use of synthetic leather become increasingly pressing issues, BNN’ ECOllection provides a viable, eco-friendly alternative. By transforming banana trunks, which are a byproduct of banana farming, into a variety of products including utensils, drinking cup and holder, the company not only addresses environmental concerns but also supports local economies by creating new revenue streams for farmers and artisans.

Oyst’r CO. highlights the innovative transformation of “oyster meat” into savory snacks, “the Oyst’r Sheet and Chips” that redefine traditional notions of seafood cuisine. Each product is crafted to highlight the versatility of oyster meat, catering to both gourmet tastes and everyday snacking. With a focus on quality and innovation, Oyst’r Co. aims to redefine how people experience seafood.

With the theme “From Ideas to Fruition: Cultivating an Entrepreneurial Ecosystem,” the affair seeks to encourage students to “create innovative business ideas by developing new products, services, and technologies that benefit the current business environment.”

Also, it aims to “foster an entrepreneurial culture and a sense of nationalism among Filipino youth while promoting entrepreneurship as a vital component of our economic sustainability, growth, and development.”

The entries will submit their full business plans and recorded oral presentations in September, and the final judging will be in October.
