CGAD retools UNP GAD Pool of Trainers
A refresher training for the members of the UNP GAD Pool of Trainers was held on March 19-20, at the UNP Hostel. The training entitled “Refining Skills for Gender Mainstreaming: UNP GAD Pool of Trainers Refresher” aimed at ensuring that trainers remain updated on new knowledge and strategies for effective delivery of GAD lectures and conduct of workshops. Further, the training was conducted to deepen the trainers’ understanding of the core messages of GAD, equip them with facilitating skills that will enable them to engage diverse audiences, and to sharpen their gender lenses.
The activity consisted of several learning sessions and workshops led by two UNP in-house Philippine Commission on Women National GAD Resource Pool members. Dr. Victoria Arce gave an orientation on the process flow in the conduct of internal and external trainings (gender sensitivity trainings) as well as a deepening session on the core messages and module outlines of the Gender Sensitivity Training.
A learning session dedicated to gender-responsive laws and policies was presented by Atty. Katrynn Louise Eder, CGAD Office-in-Charge. Dr. Eleanor Belizar delved on the issue of intersectionality in her lecture “Understanding Gender Beyond the Basics” to highlight how various social identities such as race, gender, class, sexuality, disability, and others, interact and overlap creating unique experiences of privilege and oppression.
On the 2nd day of the training, a small group discussion was facilitated by Dr. Belizar where the participants reflected on what they learned and intended actions moving forward, reaffirming their commitment as GAD trainers.
This is a part of the Center for Gender and Development’s effort to upskill GAD trainers, ensuring the integrity and effectiveness of technical services that are provided for more effective gender mainstreaming in the University and in the community at large.
