CHED Evaluates UNP’s Mechatronics and Automation Technology Program

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Technical Panel for Engineering and Technology, in collaboration with the Regional Quality Assessment Team, conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the Bachelor of Science in Mechatronics and Automation Technology (BSMAT) program of College of Technology of the University of Northern Philippines (UNP) on October 15, 2025.

The assessment, held at the Quality Assurance Office, aimed to determine the program’s compliance with national quality standards and academic requirements as part of UNP’s application for a Certificate of Program Compliance. This evaluation underscores the University’s commitment to ensure that its academic offerings meet CHED’s benchmarks for excellence in technology education.

The activity was spearheaded by the UNP Quality Assurance Team under the leadership of Dr. Eva Marie Avila. The program opened with welcome remarks from Dr. Julius Moises Albalos, Dean of the College of Technology, who underscored the College’s commitment to maintaining high academic standards. This was followed by the introduction of faculty members by Assistant Dean Dr. Allan Guillermo. Engr. Leonora Velasco Fermin-Quarte, CHED Education Supervisor II, then introduced the members of the evaluation team. Subsequently, Mr. Justin Paul Viernes provided an overview of the College of Technology, highlighting the BSMAT program and its dedicated faculty.

The evaluation was conducted in a blended format, with Engr. Leonora Velasco Fermin-Quarte, Engr. Jennifer del-Amen, and Engr. Rolly Ramos attending onsite, while Engr. Enrico Claro Delmoro and Engr. Sherwin Revereza participated virtually. Joining the assessment were the core faculty members of the Bachelor of Science in Mechatronics and Automation Technology (BSMAT) program, including Dr. Julius Moises Albalos, Dr. Allan Guillermo, Dr. Vincent Genaro Palma as program head, Engr. John Jericho Arquines, Engr. Princess Joy Espejo, Mr. Trinivic Llanes, and Mr. Viernes.

Aside from evaluating the program’s compliance documents, the CHED panel also conducted an onsite inspection of key University facilities such as the University Clinic, Research and Extension Office, Office of Student Affairs and Services, and Guidance Office, library, as well as the laboratories and classrooms of the College of Technology.
