CHS faculty conducts Lifesaving Training for Teachers, Parents in Salomague

The College of Health Sciences (CHS) of the University of Northern Philippines (UNP) faculty members led a comprehensive Basic First Aid and Basic Rescue Technique training on March 26, 2025, equipping teachers and parents with essential emergency response skills.

Spearheaded by Profs. Karen David, Ruth Corpuz, and Jevie Abella, and supported by emergency response expert Prof. Jordan Soria, the initiative aimed to enhance community preparedness for medical emergencies and disasters. Held at the covered court of Salomague Elementary School under the leadership of Mr. Cleverson Pacio, principal, the training drew eager participation from educators and parents.

Dr. Lloyd Mata, University Extension Director, opened the session by stressing the importance of immediate intervention in saving lives. Participants learned crucial first-aid techniques for handling animal bites, burns, fainting, and choking, guided by CHS faculty members. Hands-on exercises, including bandaging, emergency carries, and a simulated earthquake drill for 162 pupils, reinforced their practical skills.

The training concluded with a renewed commitment to safety, as participants vowed to share their knowledge and incorporate lifesaving techniques in their schools and homes. The success of the event has sparked discussions on expanding future sessions to benefit more community members.
