CHTM initiates environmental campaign

The College of Hospitality and Tourism Management (CHTM) successfully organized the “Gaco River Eco-Tourism Park Facility Enhancement and Environmental Awareness Campaign” on November 29, 2024, in Cabugao, Ilocos Sur. This initiative aimed to preserve the natural beauty of the Gaco River Eco-Tourism Park while enhancing its potential as a sustainable tourism destination.

The campaign focused on strengthening the connection between the academic institution and the local community, promoting collaboration to address environmental and societal challenges. It highlighted the transformative potential of integrating classroom knowledge with real-world applications through extension programs, allowing students to connect academic learning with meaningful community engagement.

Students from TMPE 4 (Recreational and Leisure Management) and THC 6 (Sustainable Tourism) actively participated in enhancing and preserving the eco-tourism park. Their involvement included facility improvements and environmental clean-up activities, providing them with hands-on experience in eco-tourism management and sustainable practices while fostering a sense of social and environmental responsibility.

The campaign underscored the importance of environmental stewardship and sustainable development. A resident noted that this collaboration has not only improved the eco-tourism park but has also inspired closer cooperation with academic institutions in preserving natural resources.

The campaign demonstrated education’s vital role in fostering sustainable development. The Gaco River Eco-Tourism Park now stands as a testament to the power of partnerships in creating lasting change for both the environment and the community.
