CODE, LGU Sto. Domingo, and BFP strengthen community preparedness through Basic Life Support and First Aid Training

The College of Open and Distance Education (CODE), formerly the Open University, in partnership with the local government unit (LGU) of Sto. Domingo, Ilocos Sur and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Sto. Domingo, successfully conducted a Training on Basic Life Support and First Aid Management on August 12-13, 2025.

The two-day activity, which is a part of the celebration of 37th National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM) last July, carrying the theme “Kumikilos para sa Kahandaan, Kaligtasan at Katatagan,”   aimed to strengthen community preparedness by equipping participants with essential life-saving knowledge and practical skills on first aid response, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and emergency management. The training emphasized the importance of immediate response during accidents, medical emergencies, and disaster situations, ensuring that participants are capable of providing initial assistance while waiting for professional responders.

This initiative is in accordance with the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the College of Open and Distance Education and the LGU of Sto. Domingo, which underscores collaborative efforts in community development, capacity-building, and disaster resilience.

Officials from the BFP Sto. Domingo served as resource persons and trainers, providing both lectures and hands-on demonstrations to ensure that participants gained practical competencies. The LGU of Sto. Domingo expressed its commitment to continuously support community-oriented programs that promote safety, preparedness, and resilience.

Through this training, the College of Open and Distance Education reaffirmed its mission to extend education and service beyond the classroom by empowering local communities with relevant skills and knowledge. This collaborative endeavor highlights the shared responsibility of academic institutions, government agencies, and local stakeholders in fostering a culture of disaster readiness and resilience.
