CSW holds two-day Personality Development Orientation and Workshop for ECCD workers

With the goal of enhancing professional efficiency and personal well-being, the College of Social Work, led by Prof. Melody T. Gacita, conducted a two-day development activity for early childhood care and development workers in Suyo, Ilocos Sur, on October 6–7, 2025.

On the first day of the training, the morning session featured a discussion on “My Personal Self” led by Prof. Aurora Quero, Assistant Dean of the College of Social Work (CSW), and Prof. Lilibeth Castañeda, faculty member of the same college. The session focused on promoting self-esteem and self-care among early childhood care and development (ECCD) through activities and reflections on self-discovery. In the afternoon, Atty. Mirela A. Verzosa, Assistant Dean of the College of Law, delved into “The Code of Ethics for ECCD Workers,” emphasizing the importance of professional ethics, integrity, and discipline in fulfilling their roles and responsibilities.

Meanwhile, on October 7, 2025, the second day of the activity featured sessions that deepened the participants’ understanding of self-awareness and interpersonal skills essential in early childhood care. In the morning, Prof. Quero led a session on “Regulating Emotions, Redefining the Self,” emphasizing the vital role of emotional awareness and regulation in effective day care management. She underscored how mastering one’s emotions directly contributes in creating a nurturing and balanced learning environment for children.

In the afternoon, Mr. Jay Ar Joshua Tolentino, faculty member CSW, discussed on “The Transformative Role of Communication in Personality Development.” His session highlighted the importance of open and empathetic communication, encouraging early childhood care and development workers to foster stronger relationships with parents and build a collaborative atmosphere that supports each child’s growth.

Ms. Jezinelle Punio, Unit Extension Coordinator, together with Mr. Tolentino spearheaded the facilitation of engaging group encounter activities that fostered teamwork and self-reflection among participants. Also in attendance was Ms. Rose Bella Villaruz, Social Welfare Officer II of the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office of Suyo, who expressed support for the continuing collaboration between the University and the local government.
