CTE–MAEd powers up teachers for inclusive and gender-responsive education

In a bid to advance inclusive and values-driven teaching, the College of Teacher Education, through its Master of Arts in Education (MAEd) program, successfully rolled out the first module of its Teacher Capacity Building Seminar Series titled “Empowering Teachers for Inclusive, Ethical, and Gender-Responsive Education” on March 23, 2026 at the Metropolitan Institute of Arts and Sciences (MIAS)–Magsingal Inc. in San Ramon, Magsingal, Ilocos Sur.

The activity was implemented under the Securing the Future: Mentoring the Mentor Program and the S.I.R.I.B. Extension Program (Sharing of Insights, Resources, and Instructional Benchmarking), which aim to strengthen professional collaboration and enhance the competencies of educators through community-responsive and research-based initiatives.

The seminar focused on key topics such as inclusive teaching practices, addressing learner diversity, and gender-responsive pedagogy, equipping teachers with practical strategies to create more inclusive, equitable, and learner-centered classrooms. Distinguished resource speakers, namely Dr. Edmar Paguirigan and Dr. Eleanor Belizar shared valuable insights and best practices that are highly relevant to the current demands of education.

The seminar drew active participation from teachers of MIAS–Magsingal and faculty members from other MIAS campuses who joined virtually, highlighting the program’s broadened reach and its commitment to making professional development more accessible across locations.

 The activity was distinguished by the high level of participation and engagement demonstrated by the attendees, who actively contributed insights during discussions and open forum sessions. Their thoughtful exchanges and collaborative dialogue underscored a shared commitment to enhance teaching practices. The participants’ enthusiasm further highlighted a growing awareness of the need to adopt responsive, inclusive approaches that effectively address the diverse learning needs of students.

This initiative spearheaded by CTE faculty members namely: Dr. Rainalda Rambuyon, Dr. Maria Theresa Forneas, and Dr. Alma Josefina Bobita also highlighted the celebration of National Women’s Month, integrating Gender and Development principles by promoting gender equality and gender-responsive teaching practices in the classroom.

Through this extension activity, the MAEd Program reaffirmed its commitment to develop competent, ethical, and inclusive educators while strengthening institutional partnerships. The success of the seminar underscores the importance of continuous professional development in improving the quality of education and empowering teachers as agents of change in their respective communities.
