DLH lectures on writing minutes in Quimmarayan

The Department of Languages and Humanities in the College of Arts and Sciences through its DLH SSS (Saluad, Saririt ken Saranay) Extension Program effectively administered a lecture on the format of taking minutes of a meeting at Quimmarayan Elementary School, Quimmarayan, Sto. Domingo, Ilocos Sur.

Teachers and barangay officials attended the lecture, which is an essential practice in both community and elementary school settings, in providing a written record of what transpired during meetings, helping ensure that decisions and actions are properly documented and followed up on.

The welcome of Mrs. Catherine R. Tibuc, principal of Quimmarayan Elementary School, emphasized that the purpose of taking minutes is to ensure that discussions, decisions, and actions are documented and accessible to all stakeholders. It fosters accountability, transparency, and effective communication while providing an essential tool for future planning and follow-up in both community and elementary school settings.

Subsequently, Prof. Bernadeth F. Canoy the organizer and initiator of the activity, conveyed the rationale for the activity. She stressed that in the context of a community or school, this is important for historical reference, helping to track ongoing projects or issues over time.

In the activity, Mr. Michel M. Visaya, faculty member of DLH, showcased the key purposes of the minutes of a meeting such as documentation of key discussions and decisions, legal and official records for future reference, providing a structured record, and improvement of communication.

As a response from the beneficiaries, Mr. Marino M. Tababa, barangay captain, expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the enlightening and reflective discussion on taking minutes of a meeting which is one of their needs in their barangay transactions.

The lecture concluded with closing remarks of Prof. Nolito R. Ragunjan, the unit extension coordinator. He lauded the collaboration among the three institutions and articulated the importance of continued partnerships in empowering community engagement through legal and written documentation.

The activity was initiated and organized by Prof. Bernadeth F. Canoy and led by Prof. Allen Magdaleno De Vera, the department head.
