Excellence in Midwifery: UNP faculty receives Outstanding Midwife 2026 Award

The University of Northern Philippines continues to affirm its leadership in healthcare education as Dr. Romelia Tamayo, faculty member of the College of Health Sciences, earned the Outstanding Midwife 2026 award from the Integrated Midwives Association of the Philippines (IMAP), Inc. – Region I.

The recognition was conferred during the association’s 8th Annual Regional Convention on July 10, 2026, at the Cultural Center and Sports Complex in Urdaneta City, Pangasinan, honoring her exceptional contributions to the midwifery profession, education, and maternal and child health services.

Held under the theme “One Million More Midwives,” convention honored Dr. Tamayo for her commitment to excellence in midwifery and her significant contributions to the advancement of the profession. The recognition also highlighted her distinguished role in the academe, affirming her invaluable efforts in shaping future midwives through quality education, mentorship, and dedicated professional service.

The event formed part of IMAP Region I’s annual gathering, which brings together members of the midwifery profession to recognize exemplary practitioners and promote professional development.

IMAP national and regional leaders formally affirmed the distinction bestowed upon Dr. Romelia Tamayo, with National President Annie Suzanne Uño, Regional President Jaime Estrada Jr., and IMAP Executive Vice President Patricia Gomez recognizing her exemplary contributions during the 2026 Regional Convention. Their acknowledgment showed Dr. Tamayo’s commitment in advancing the midwifery profession, promoting quality healthcare service, and strengthening the vital role of midwives in communities through education, leadership, and professional excellence.
