The University of Northern Philippines Gymnasium became a lively hub of cultural celebration on November 25, 2024, as the Perlas ti Amianan Organization, in collaboration with the Department of Social Sciences and Philosophy, Danggay Saririt Culture Dance Troupe, and the Department of Physical Education, hosted “Panagrambak: A Showcase of Indigenous Peoples Heritage and Talents.” The event commemorated Indigenous Peoples and United Nations Month through a lively mix of performances, contests, and exhibitions.
With the participation of students enrolled in Readings in Philippine History, Philippine Indigenous Communities, and Contemporary World subjects for in First Term, AY 2024–2025, the program highlighted the contributions and heritage of indigenous peoples while fostering global unity and environmental sustainability.
Dr. Erwin Cadorna, UNP President, graced the event with an inspiring message, emphasizing the importance of inclusivity and solidarity.
“We must love and support our brothers and sisters who are part of the indigenous community,” Dr. Cadorna said. “Their culture and heritage are not only treasures of our nation but also vital threads in the fabric of humanity. Let us commit to upholding their rights, celebrating their contributions, and fostering an environment where diversity thrives.”
The celebration featured captivating indigenous dances and songs performed by the Danggay Saririt Culture Dance Troupe, a cultural quiz bee, and a parade of costumes inspired by various nations, crafted from recycled materials. These activities served as a platform to promote cultural awareness, creativity, and sustainability among students and attendees.
“This event is a reminder of the beauty and resilience of indigenous heritage and a call to embrace diversity and foster global unity,” said Dr. Chase Mark Suyat, head of the Department of Social Sciences & Philosophy, during his welcome remarks.
Participants and spectators lauded the event for its meaningful celebration of indigenous culture and its integration of global themes.
