Law in action: UNP College of Law kicks off 18-Day VAW Campaign with free legal services

The University of Northern Philippines–College of Law has officially launched its active participation in the nationwide 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW), providing free legal consultation services to the public until December 12, 2025.

Spearheaded by the College’s faculty and student volunteers, the initiative demonstrates their pivotal role in advocating for women’s rights and access to justice. Aligned with the national theme, “UNITED for a VAW-Free Philippines,” the campaign highlights the College’s commitment not only to empowering victims but also to foster a safer, more inclusive society through education, legal support, and community engagement.

The program officially commenced with a warm welcome from Ms. Nicole Punsalan, Officer of the Law School Government (LSG), setting an engaging tone for the event. This was followed by an inspiring message from Atty. Verselie Limos, Officer-in-Charge Dean of the College of Law, who highlighted the College’s commitment to justice and public service. Adding a powerful perspective on social responsibility, Atty. Katrynn Luise Eder, OIC Director of the Center for Gender and Development, delivered a compelling address that emphasized the vital role of collective action in eradicating gender-based violence and promoting a safer, more inclusive society.

As part of the 18-day observance, Atty. Ignatius Tablada, Extension Coordinator of the College of Law, outlined the lineup of activities aimed to promote awareness and support for the campaign. Highlighted initiatives include community lectures on legal rights, free legal consultation services for the public, targeted outreach programs, and efforts to deepen partnerships with local institutions. These activities highlight the College’s commitment to fostering justice, empowering communities, and strengthening collaborative networks to address issues surrounding violence against women.

The Free Legal Counseling Program of the College, in partnership with the Law School Government and the Center for Gender and Development aimed to provide accessible legal support to women and other vulnerable sectors. The initiative runs from November 25 to December 12, 2025, as part of the nationwide observance of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women.

Through this program, the College reinforces its commitment to human rights, gender sensitivity, and equitable access to justice, empowering communities while ensuring accountability for offenders. Members of the public seeking legal guidance may coordinate directly with the UNP College of Law throughout the campaign period.
