MOA signing marks united front for Maternal and Child Health

A landmark step toward advancing maternal and child wellness in one of Ilocos Sur’s most remote communities was taken as the University of Northern Philippines (UNP) College of Nursing formally signed a memorandum of agreement with Pidpid, Sta Cruz, Ilocos Sur on June 20, 2025 for PROJECT HEALS.

The signing ceremony brought together key representatives from UNP College of Nursing, led by Dean Francis Don Nero, Assistant Dean Mercedes Anicas, and CN Extension Coordinator Jennifer Cabides. In attendance from Pidpid, Sta Cruz were Barangay Captain Walter Juldo and Councilor Antonio Biligan, whose presence signaled strong community support for the initiative.

PROJECT HEALS (Health Education and Assessment for Local Sustainability) is a collaborative program designed to address the critical health disparities affecting mothers and children in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas. Through health education sessions, community-based assessments, and strengthened grassroots partnerships, the project aims to foster safer pregnancies, promote child development, and raise awareness of essential health practices.

This partnership represents not just a written agreement, but a shared commitment to create lasting change. PROJECT HEALS is about empowering families with the knowledge and tools to take charge of their own health.

The initiative is firmly aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 3, which targets the reduction of maternal and child mortality and the promotion of well-being for all. As local health workers and families look ahead, the MOA signing stands as a beacon of hope and a catalyst for inclusive, community-centered healthcare in Sitio Linggawa, Pidpid.
