MST-Chem faculty participates in International Sustainability Course

Faculty members from the Master of Science in Teaching (MST) Chemistry program of the University of Northern Philippines joined an international short course on science education for sustainability held from July 17 to 19, 2025, at Universitas Negeri Malang in East Java.

Hosted by the university’s Department of Science Education, the short course brought together teacher educators and student teachers from the Philippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Science education lecturers from the UNP MST Chemistry program, Dr. Dennese Jane Meresen, Dr. Joey-Nell Marzan, and Ms. Melody Marquez, played key roles in the short course as facilitators and project evaluators. Their involvement showcased the program’s commitment to innovative and sustainable science education and provided opportunities for international collaboration and professional development.

The short course aimed to emphasize the importance of aligning science education with sustainability principles, equipping learners with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to promote environmental stewardship, resource conservation, and sustainable development. The program featured a series of lectures on integrating sustainability concepts into science teaching and learning, presentations of students’ creative works and research, and a whole-day field immersion.
