The University of Northern Philippines participated in the 2025 ASCU-SN Solid North Mid-Year Culture and Athletic Festival, a five-day celebration of athleticism, unity, and culture. This year’s event, themed “CELEBRATION BEYOND COMPETION,” officially kicked off on July 15 at Benguet State University in La Trinidad, Benguet.
A total of 25 State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) from Regions I, II, III, and the Cordillera Administrative Region joined the vibrant festivities. The festival opened with a colorful foot parade around the BSU campus, drawing cheers from participants and spectators alike.
The opening program was graced by CHED Commissioner and former ASCU-SN President Dr. Shirley Agrupis, who served as Guest of Honor and Speaker. In her address, Dr. Agrupis highlighted the power of unity among SUCs and praised the organizers for strengthening ties within the academic community. “This is not just a typical festival; it is a form of thanksgiving and a testament to our collaboration as one family in Solid North,” she remarked.
CHED Commissioner Desiderio Apag III also inspired the delegation, stressing the key role SUCs play in regional development. “SUCs have been a bastion of hope and access, especially for students in the regions. You open doors of opportunity for young people who might otherwise be left behind, empowering entire families, communities, and local economies,” he said.
La Trinidad Mayor Roderick Awingan welcomed the delegates with open arms, expressing his full support for the event and encouraging everyone to experience the unique products and tourist attractions of La Trinidad and Benguet.
To officially open the games, ASCU-SN President Dr. Silvero Ramon Salunson of Tarlac Agricultural University declared the 2025 ASCU-SN Friendship Games commenced, urging participants to celebrate camaraderie, sportsmanship, and northern pride.
The stage is now set for five days packed with spirited competitions, cultural showcases, and lasting friendships—a true celebration beyond competition!
