The UNP College of Nursing, led by Dean Francis Don Nero, organized a seminar entitled “Innovative Teaching in Nursing: Enhancing Syllabi, Clinical Plans, and Assessment” at the UNP Hostel Function Hall on August 12, 2024.

Dr. Rolando B. Navarro, Vice President for Academic Affairs, delivered an inspirational message to kickstart the seminar. VP Navarro motivated the faculty members in attendance, emphasizing the importance of preparedness and the continuous improvement of nursing education.

Dr. Navarro’s message set a positive tone for the event, encouraging participants to engage actively in the discussions and activities planned for the seminar. This approach aligns with the seminar’s objectives of enhancing nursing curricula and teaching methodologies to better prepare students for their future roles in healthcare.

Dr. Jamaica Vizcarra-Garcia and Dr. Mark Angelo C. Reotutar served as lecturers for the seminar. Dr. Garcia focused on Teacher-Learning Activities (TLA) and the integration of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into nursing syllabi. Meanwhile, Dr. Reotutar discussed the significance and appropriate use of the Table of Specifications in assessment tools.

The seminar emphasized the value of well-crafted syllabi in several ways. It helps keep the curriculum up-to-date by introducing the latest advancements in nursing practice, research, and technology, ensuring that what students learn is relevant and current.

The seminar exemplified the importance of continuous professional development and the enhancement of nursing education. Focusing on updating curricula, engaging students, bridging knowledge gaps, promoting inclusivity, and structuring learning, the College of Nursing demonstrated its dedication to producing highly skilled and well-prepared nursing professionals.
