The Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs (OVPAA), in partnership with the Instruction and Faculty Development Office (IFDO) and the National Service Training Program (NSTP) Office, successfully conducted the 2nd Annual Capacity Building for NSTP Implementers on August 1–2, 2025.
The two-day seminar opened with welcome remarks from Dr. Luzviminda Relon, IFDO Director, followed by a message from Dr. Rolando Navarro, Vice President for Academic Affairs.
The first day featured a series of insightful presentations. Dr. Jamaica Garcia, Program Head of MAT-English, discussed effective NSTP instruction through relevant teaching strategies. This was followed by Dr. Mark Angelo Reotutar, Program Head of MAME, who tackled assessing learning outcomes in NSTP courses.
In the afternoon, Dr. Christy Venezuela, DMNS faculty, presented a session on environmental protection. Mr. Jastin Soria, Coordinator for Disaster Risk Reduction Management, spoke on disaster awareness, preparedness, and management. Ivy Cariño, CPAD/NSTP faculty, led a session on leadership training, while Prof. Irene Melanie Gerona, CHS/NSTP faculty, discussed drug education.
Day two began with a session on citizenship training by Glenn Aludino of the Laboratory School. Dr. Aldrin Jaramilla, Faculty Union President, followed with a talk on self-awareness and self-development. Mr. Marvin Antiporda, CCJE faculty, then gave a presentation on national security.
The sessions continued with Dr. Evelym Amano, DLH/NSTP faculty, discussing literacy and numeracy, followed by Dr. Francisco Quelnan, also a DLH/NSTP faculty, who shared insights on community service and learning. The final lecture was delivered by Dr. Mae Oliva Piano of DLH, who talked about gender and development.
Dr. Carlo Ventura, NSTP Director, concluded the activity with his closing remarks, highlighting the importance of strengthening the capabilities of NSTP implementers in fostering holistic student development.
