OVPAA, IFDO team up for Faculty Capacity Building Workshop – Phase 2
The Capacity Building of Faculty on the Development of Publishable Instructional Materials – Phase 2 was held on December 16, 2024, at the UNP Gymnasium, organized by the Instruction and Faculty Development Office (IFDO) in collaboration with the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs (OVPAA).
This event aimed to enhance faculty competencies in creating high-quality instructional materials that are suitable for publication.
Dr. Rolando Navarro, the Vice President for Academic Affairs, graced the workshop, emphasizing the importance of continuous professional development for faculty members to meet academic standards and improve student learning outcomes.
After the welcome remarks of VP Navarro, Dr. Archie Martinez, head of continuing professional development, presented the rationale behind the training-workshop. He highlighted that equipping faculty with skills in instructional material development is essential for enhancing educational quality and ensuring that materials are relevant and impactful.
Next, Dr. Ritchel Royce Chan, head of the expanded tertiary education equivalency and accreditation program (ETEEAP), introduced the resource speaker for the event, Dr. Jonathan Macayan, Dean of the Institute for Digital Learning at Mapua University.
Dr. Jonathan, presented Challenges & Benefits of Transformational Outcomes-Based Education (OBE). He discussed various challenges educators face while implementing OBE and how these challenges can be transformed into opportunities for enhancing teaching practices.
In the next session, Dr. Macayan discussed the topic on Designing OBE Framework, Instructional Materials, Methods, and Strategies, he elaborated on effective strategies for designing an OBE framework that aligns with instructional materials. He emphasized the importance of adapting teaching methods to foster better learning experiences.
Following the presentations of Dr. Macayan, Mr. Nico Molina and Mr. George Philippe Amano shared their impressions of the workshop, stressing its relevance and effectiveness in addressing current educational needs. They noted that the insights gained would significantly influence their approach to instructional material development.
The workshop concluded with the closing remarks from Dr. Luzviminda Relon, who expressed gratitude to all participants. She reiterated the importance of ongoing faculty development initiatives in maintaining high educational standards.
This capacity-building workshop represents a crucial step in fostering a culture of continuous improvement among faculty members at UNP, ensuring that they are well-equipped to develop publishable instructional materials that enhance student learning experiences.
