PDLs gain welding and fabrication skills through livelihood training

Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) at Ilocos Sur Provincial Jail received hands-on training in shielded metal arc welding and steel window fabrication from April 2 to 5, 2025.

The training aimed to equip PDLs with practical skills for future employment and reintegration into society. The program organized by the Automotive faculty of College of Technology was led by Prof. Nelson Bajet, together with Prof. Jesus Garcia and Prof. Orlino Tabbuac. Warden Raymond Tabios warmly received the training team and voiced his strong support for the program, recognizing its impact on the personal growth and future livelihood of the PDLs.

The training focused on essential techniques such as welding, cutting, and assembling steel components, as well as proper equipment handling and safety. More than developing technical skills, the program fostered discipline, confidence, and a renewed sense of purpose. Aligned with SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), it empowers PDLs to build a better future and become productive members of society.
