POLIS raises VAWC awareness through stage play

The Politically Inclined Students (POLIS), in partnership with the UNP Center for Gender and Development (UNP-CGAD), concluded the 18-day campaign to end violence against women (VAW) with a powerful stage play at the College of Teacher Education (CTE) Function Hall on December 10.

Atty. Katrynn Louise Eder, CGAD director, delivered her opening remarks, emphasizing the widespread issue of violence against women and other gender-based violence. She called on students to actively participate in the advocacy for gender equality and women’s empowerment.

The stage play, performed by second year Political Science students, dramatized the harsh realities of violence against women and their children (VAWC). It tackled themes of domestic violence, suppression, and the resilience of survivors.

The event concluded with an awarding ceremony that recognized the outstanding performances of the students. Special mentions were awarded to Arvin Serrano (BAPS-2B, Best Lead Actor), Reizell Anne Talavera (BAPS 2A, Best Lead Actress), Kiel Mosuela (BAPS-2C, Best Supporting Actor), and Angelica Dela Cruz (BAPS-2B, Best Supporting Actress).

For the major awards, BAPS-2A earned both the Best in Wardrobe and Best in Stage Direction awards, while BAPS-2C won the Best in Script award. Ultimately, BAPS-2A was crowned as the “Best Stage Play,” followed by BAPS-2C in second place and BAPS-2B in third.

The performances creatively showcased various scenarios of gender-based violence. It serves as a strong reminder that combating violence against women and children is essential to achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment. It also inspired hope and collective action to build a violence-free community.

Moreover, the event was wrapped up through the closing remarks of Ms. Mae Angelie Salvador-Garcia, POLIS adviser and the head of the Political Science program.
