BS Psychology program shares mental health advocacy through Project Hiraya

The BS Psychology program, invited by the Provincial Health Office (PHO) and the Provincial Youth Development Office (PYDO), took part on the Mental Health Fair for Adolescents with the theme “Let’s Stand Against the Stigma and Protect your Mental Health” on December 5, 2024, held at the Farmers Livelihood Development Center, Provincial Government of Ilocos Sur.

The event provided a day filled with meaningful discussions and support for the youth of Ilocos Sur.

The activity is part of the BS Psychology’ Project Safe Space aimed to advocate for mental health and foster a supportive, stigma-free environment for young individuals of all genders. It sought to debunk misconceptions about mental health, encourage participants to seek help during moments of anxiety or depression, and offer hope and alternatives to self-harm and suicide.

Mr. Mico Molina, program head of BS Psychology, and Mrs. Alexandria Blake C. Real-Pisalbo, BS Psychology faculty, were the invited psychologists for the event to provide psychological support to students in need, ensuring a safe and compassionate space for mental health discussions and interventions.

The Project Safe Space demonstrated the University’s commitment to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 5 (Gender Equality). By offering free mental health services and promoting inclusivity, the event empowered young individuals to thrive in a supportive and understanding community.
