Psych faculty highlights Mental Wellness at Ilocos Sur PPO’s 3-in-1 PCR Month Celebration

The Ilocos Sur Police Provincial Office (ISPPO) conducted a 3-in-1 event anchored on the theme “Sa Bagong Pilipinas, Ang Gusto ng Pulis, Ligtas Ka!” on July 14, 2025.

One of the highlights of the event was a Mental Health in the Workplace session titled “Ligtas na Kalusugan at Kaisipan,” delivered by Mr. Mico Molina, a faculty member of the BS Psychology program of the College of Arts and Sciences, University of Northern Philippines. Mr. Molina shared timely insights on workplace stress, psychological resilience, and mental health as a pillar of professional effectiveness—especially for those in demanding, high-stress environments, like law enforcement.

The session emphasized that prioritizing mental health is essential not only for personal well-being but also for sustaining peak performance in public service. The speaker also encouraged help-seeking behaviors and reminded participants that building emotional resilience is a proactive step toward safety and strength.

The activity, as part of the 30th Police Community Relations (PCR) Month celebration, aimed to strengthen camaraderie, promote holistic wellness, and foster stronger community partnerships among police personnel. It was attended by personnel from Ilocos Sur 1st District and the Provincial Headquarters. The event underscores the ISPPO’s commitment to the holistic development of its officers—supporting not just operational readiness, but also their physical and mental well-being.

This initiative also reflects the continuing commitment of the University, through its College of Arts and Sciences – Psychology program, to extend its academic expertise and psychosocial services to partner government agencies and the broader community in pursuit of a safer and healthier nation.
