Region 1 secured a bronze medal finish in the Badminton Mixed Doubles event at the 2025 NSCUAA games on April 25 at Camiguin Island. The strong partnership between UNP Shark’s Brian Corpuz and DMMMSU Stingers’ Althea Balitao delivered a commendable performance in the semifinals against NCR, showcasing solid teamwork and determination despite falling short of the finals.
Corpuz and Balitao demonstrated impressive coordination throughout the match, with well-placed smashes and consistent returns. However, the NCR team proved formidable, ultimately defeating the Region 1 pair and advancing to the finals.
Despite the loss, the bronze medal win highlights the strength of Region 1’s mixed doubles pairing and the effectiveness of inter-region collaboration. Coach Florence and Coach Manny guided the athletes with strategy and support, contributing to the duo’s success.
The podium finish reflects Region 1’s competitiveness in badminton and sets the tone for stronger showings in future tournaments.
