CCJE students earn accolades at reg’l criminology confab
In the recently concluded 5th Regional Criminal Justice Students’ Congress, students of the UNP College of Criminal Justice Education earned awards in different contested activities.
The affair was held at the Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College–Main Campus, Candon City on November 22-23, 2024. It was a result of the collaboration between the Professional Criminologists Association of the Philippines (PCAP) and the Council of Criminal Justice Educators of Region I. It highlighted the different talents, skills, and wits of young future law enforcers from various state colleges and universities.
Representing the University of Northern Philippines, 77 criminology students participated in the different academic and non-academic events and garnered awards. They were accompanied by 19 faculty members, led by Dean Sina C. Bestre.
The following are the awardees for the individual events:
Research Presentation: Clyde Justine Rabara (2nd place)
Oratorical Competition: Osoteo Duncan (3rd place)
Extemporaneous Competition: Daryll Valdez (2nd place)
Search for Most Outstanding Criminology Student: Chrizlle Elleine Tesorio (one of the Top 10 Regional Outstanding Criminology Students of 2024 in Region 1)
Open Individual Male Kata: Tristan Diomel Anagaran (1st place)
Individual Kumite Male 60kg Category: Dave Vergel N. Barte (1st place)
Individual Male Kumite 65kg Category: Tristan Diomel Anagaran (3rd place)
Individual Kumite Male 70kg Category: Dhon Gilbert Valdez (1st place)
Individual Kumite Male +70kg Category: Genesis Troy Alafriz (2nd place)
Also, the following are the winners in the team events:
Team Kata (Male): Dave Vergel N. Barte, Tristan Diomel Anagaran, Dhon Gilbert Valdez (1st place)
Team Kumite (Male): Tristan Diomel Anagaran, Dhon Gilbert Valdez, Genesis Troy Alafriz (1st place)
Bucket Relay: Joshua Ramirez, Ryan Rick Itliong, Harle Cacatian, Christopher Alejo, Daniel Ragunjan, Maria Samantha Tabin, Kate Angel Batoon, Gian Julius Paz, Valiant Ramos, John Miguel Tagorda
“To all the participants who poured their heart and soul into their events, your dedication and training have truly paid off. Let this fuel our determination as we sharpen our skills and set our sights on becoming the overall champions at the next Regional Criminal Justice Students’ Congress,” Dean Bestre said.
