CTE leads skills training in Puro
The UNP College of Teacher Education successfully conducted a two-day extension program titled “Empowering Mentors through Gender-Responsive Skills Training on Basic Plumbing, Welding, and Electrical Wiring Installation” at Puro National High School in Puro, Magsingal, Ilocos Sur on November 27–28, 2024.
The program was organized in response to a request from PNHS Principal Mrs. Melanie U. Castello to provide essential skills training for the school’s faculty. This initiative aimed to equip teachers with practical skills in traditionally male-dominated fields while promoting gender inclusivity.
The training sessions were led by expert trainers, including Dr. Jojit D. Aquino and Dr. Dave B. Fontejon (electrical wiring), Dr. Efren U. Galapon and Mr. Vic Norman Naval (plumbing), and Dr. Jake M. Quitasol and Mr. Reynaldo N. Regucera (welding).
Each trainer provided hands-on experience in their respective fields, ensuring the participants developed practical skills that can be used for maintenance and livelihood opportunities.
The event was facilitated by Mr. Arthur V. Pascua, Mr. Marnie P. Tabilin, and Mr. Randall Rabacal, along with the help of student extensionists from the BTVTED and BTLED programs.
Despite a weather-related rescheduling, the event went smoothly, with participants expressing high satisfaction. The program successfully combined skill-building with gender-responsive education, cultivating both professional growth and inclusivity among the participants.
