SWSO Head empowers Parents on Mental Health at SDO Vigan PTA Summit

The Schools Division Office of Vigan City successfully held the PTA Summit 2025 on August 18 at Max’s Restaurant, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur, aiming to strengthen partnerships between parents and schools through training, dialogue, and information dissemination.

The event featured a session on “Empowering Parents: Their Role in Mental Health and Psychosocial Support for Learners,” led by Dr. Marifel Acena, Head of the Student Welfare Services Office (SWSO) under the Office of Student Affairs and Services (OSAS). The topic focused on the vital participation of parents in promoting mental well-being and creating supportive school environments.

Dr. Acena equipped parents with practical tools to actively engage in addressing critical mental health and psychosocial issues faced by learners, underscoring the essential nature of parent-school collaboration.

The summit served as a critical platform for fostering cooperation, enhancing the quality of education, and ensuring a safe and supportive academic atmosphere. Dr. Acena’s involvement reflected the University of Northern Philippines’ commitment to empowering community members and reinforcing education systems beyond its campus, aligning with its grassroots mission.
