UNP Architecture faculty joins NCCA’s ‘Pamanang Poók’ heritage capacity-building event

In a powerful convergence of knowledge and heritage advocacy, faculty from the University of Northern Philippines’ College of Architecture actively participated in the NCCA’s Pamanang Poók on November 19–20, 2025, at the Metropolitan Theater in Manila, joining experts nationwide in efforts to strengthen cultural preservation and awareness.

Representing the College of Architecture, Ar. Precious Beulah T. Gascon and Ar. Carol C. Pugal joined a nationwide assembly of heritage advocates, local government officials, cultural practitioners, and professionals dedicated to heritage conservation and management.

Now celebrating its second year, Pamanang Poók, which translates to “heritage place,” continues to serve as a vital platform for promotion of collaboration in Philippine heritage management. The program highlights the National Commission for Culture and the Arts’ (NCCA) unwavering commitment to the protection, preservation, and safeguarding of the country’s rich cultural and architectural heritage, while strengthening partnerships among heritage advocates, government units, and cultural practitioners nationwide.

The two-day Pamanang Poók event commenced on November 19 with plenary discussions that spotlighted pressing issues in heritage protection, policy alignment, and community-based conservation frameworks. Experts and participants alike emphasized the critical role of technical expertise and cross-sector collaboration in safeguarding the nation’s cultural properties against emerging threats.

On November 20, the focus shifted to more specialized breakout sessions, providing architects, heritage practitioners, and cultural workers with a platform to exchange best practices, share local experiences, and refine strategies for heritage conservation. These interactive sessions fostered meaningful dialogue, enabling participants to enhance their approaches to preserving cultural and built heritage within their communities and institutions.
