Four faculty members from the University of Northern Philippines (UNP) attended the Capacity-Building on Internationalizing the Teacher Education Curriculum program held on October 23, 2025, at the Golden Lion Hotel in Lingayen, Pangasinan. The activity was organized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Regional Office I in cooperation with Pangasinan State University (PSU).
The UNP delegation was composed of esteemed academic leaders and educators who play pivotal roles in advancing the university’s instructional and internationalization efforts. The team included Dr. Luzviminda Relon, Director for Instruction and Faculty Development; Dr. Ma. Teresa Susan Manzano, Dean of the College of Teacher Education; Dr. Winnie Caliboso, Coordinator for Student and Personnel Mobility; and Dr. Ma. Theresa Fornes, Program Head of the Bachelor of Secondary Education.
The program sought to enhance the global competitiveness of Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs) across Region I by promoting curriculum alignment with international standards and advancing the professional capabilities of faculty and academic leaders. It emphasized the importance of integrating global perspectives into teacher education programs to prepare future educators for the demands of an increasingly interconnected world.
Experts from various higher education institutions led a series of insightful sessions tackling critical aspects of globalizing teacher education. Dr. Stephenie Busbus of Saint Louis University discussed the Frameworks and Models of Curriculum Internationalization, setting the conceptual foundation for the program. Dr. Ryan Jayson Delos Reyes of Urdaneta City University followed with an engaging presentation on Integrating Global Competencies and Intercultural Learning Outcomes with AI, highlighting the transformative role of technology in education. Meanwhile, Dr. Daryl Dacanay of St. Patrick School of Quezon City shared Good Practices in Internationalizing Teacher Education through Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL), and Dr. Meejay Domingo of Mariano Marcos State University concluded the sessions with Strategies for Curriculum Internationalization.
The program also featured a hands-on Curriculum Mapping Workshop led by Dr. Cristeta Dulos of Pangasinan State University–Lingayen. This was followed by institutional action planning sessions, output presentations, and discussions aimed to foster future collaborations among participating institutions. In his closing remarks, Dr. Danilo Bose, Chief Education Program Specialist of CHED Regional Office I, commended the participants for their active engagement and commitment to advance internationalization efforts. The University of Northern Philippines was among the Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs) in Region I that took part in the capacity-building initiative.
