A new chapter begins for engineering at the University of Northern Philippines as officials broke ground today, March 9, 2026, signaling the much-anticipated rehabilitation of the College of Engineering Building immediately following the university’s flag ceremony.
The University of Northern Philippines officially kicked off the much-anticipated rehabilitation of its College of Engineering Building with a ceremonial groundbreaking, marking a major step toward enhancing the campus’s infrastructure and learning environment for engineering students. The program opened with Dr. Johnny Belizar, Director of the Infrastructure and Project Management Office (IPMO), presenting the project’s background and objectives. This was followed by the unveiling of the project signage, the ceremonial groundbreaking, and the laying of a time capsule—acts that reflect the university’s dedication to provide state-of-the-art facilities and leave a lasting legacy for future generations of engineers.
University President Dr. Erwin Cadorna led the groundbreaking ceremony, joined by key members of the university administration, including Alumni Regent Engr. Nestor Pajaro, Faculty Regent Dr. Aldrin Jaramilla, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Rolando Navarro, and Vice President for Finance and Administration Mr. Albert Tejero. Also present were Dr. Nelia Verzosa, Dean of the College of Engineering, together with faculty members and student leaders who gathered to witness the milestone event.
Their presence highlighted the strong support of the university leadership and academic community for the initiative, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthen the institution’s infrastructure. The ceremony not only marked the start of the rehabilitation project but also reaffirmed the university’s ongoing efforts to modernize its facilities and provide engineering students with a more conducive and innovative learning environment.
A site blessing was also conducted by Rev. Fr. Andres Nuesca Jr., as part of the program to formally dedicate the project, pray and bless for its successful completion.
The rehabilitation of the College of Engineering building reflects UNP’s ongoing efforts to enhance its academic environment and provide students with improved facilities that will support their training as future engineers and professionals.
