UNP brings higher education within reach: Mobile College Admission Test opens doors for upland students

Bringing opportunity closer to aspiring scholars in far-flung communities, the University of Northern Philippines took a significant step toward inclusive access to higher education as it successfully administered the UNP College Admission Test (UNP-CAT) at Salcedo National High School on February 27–28, 2026—opening doors to academic dreams once limited by distance and circumstance.

The two-day off-site testing initiative, led by the Admission Services Office in partnership with the Office of Student Affairs and Services (OSAS), brought the University’s entrance examination directly to students in the upland municipalities of Ilocos Sur. By delivering the test on-site, the University significantly eased the financial strain and travel challenges often faced by families who would otherwise need to journey to Vigan City. Through this mobile testing center approach, the University reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive access to higher education—ensuring that distance and geography do not stand in the way of students’ academic aspirations.

The success of the event was the result of strong collaboration between the University of Northern Philippines, led by University President Dr. Erwin Cadorna, and Salcedo National High School under the leadership of Principal Mr. Joseph Decano, with invaluable assistance from local coordinator Mr. Vincent Ramos.

On the ground, dedicated personnel from the Admission Services Office and the Guidance and Counseling Services ensured the seamless processing of applications from walk-in students of Salcedo National High School and neighboring institutions. Their hands-on support guaranteed that the administration of the examination upheld the university’s rigorous standards while remaining inclusive and accessible to aspiring students from upland communities.

Through initiatives like this, the University of Northern Philippines continues to strengthen its role as a catalyst for inclusive growth and opportunity. By bringing the UNP College Admission Test directly to Salcedo, the University demonstrates that access to higher education should not be limited by distance or financial constraints. More than a logistical effort, the outreach affirms UNP’s commitment to become a gateway to opportunity—serving as a steppingstone for every young Ilokano dream, regardless of status or location.
