UNP BSA empowers future business leaders through two-day ABM–BE Bookkeeping Clinic at Sinait NHS

Demonstrating its sustained commitment to extension and community service, the Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BSA) Program of the University of Northern Philippines conducted a two-day ABM–BE Bookkeeping Clinic for senior high school students of Sinait National High School on December 9–10, 2025. Anchored on the theme “All Booked Up! Mastering Business Essentials,” the initiative aimed to equip ABM learners with practical skills in bookkeeping, accounting, and taxation through hands-on guidance from university experts.

Throughout the program, faculty members of UNP, together with practicing accountancy professionals, conducted a series of practical, industry-aligned sessions aimed to strengthen the participants’ foundational skills in bookkeeping and financial management. The activity formally opened with a message from Dr. Marisa Valoria, School Principal IV, who emphasized the value of initiatives such as the clinic in equipping students with essential financial knowledge and literacy that will better prepare them for higher education and future careers.

Day 1 set a strong academic tone for the program as key accounting fundamentals were unpacked through expert-led sessions by Ms. Mary Ann Dela Cruz, BSA Program Head, and Ms. Joy Eulalia Ugale, BSA faculty member. Ms. Dela Cruz delivered a comprehensive discussion on accrual accounting, emphasizing the proper alignment of revenues and expenses as a cornerstone of sound financial reporting, while Ms. Ugale translated theory into practice through an engaging session on reconciling bank and book balances. These core topics, vital in understanding the accounting cycle, were strategically designed to sharpen the competencies of students preparing to pursue accountancy and other business-related programs.

Day 2 further enriched the participants’ learning experience through in-depth and engaging sessions led by legal and accounting experts. Atty. Anna Karizza Rialubin delivered a comprehensive lecture on taxation and the cost of doing business, providing students with a clearer understanding of how tax obligations directly impact business operations and decision-making. Complementing this, Atty. Jayson Rapisura guided the participants through essential topics on regulatory compliance, legal liability, the computation of taxable income, and allowable deductions. These discussions were reinforced through interactive activities and reflective sessions that fostered active engagement and deeper appreciation of real-world applications. The success of the second day was also made possible by the dedicated efforts of student facilitators and ABM-BE Club officers, who ensured the program’s smooth and orderly implementation.

The program formally concluded with the distribution of certificates and expressions of gratitude, reaffirming the BSA Program’s dedication to service-oriented education and academic distinction. By providing students with practical financial competencies and insights into real-world business applications, the bookkeeping clinic substantially enhanced the readiness of Sinait National High School learners for higher education and prospective careers in accountancy, finance, and related fields.
