Demonstrating its commitment to community development and service, the University of Northern Philippines College of Engineering carried out an extension activity at Lao-ingen Elementary School on March 25, 2026, under its flagship initiative, Project SHAPE: Sustainable Humanitarian Assistance through Professional Engineering.
The activity brought together faculty members and stakeholders to deliver technical knowledge and practical assistance aimed to improve community awareness and preparedness. One of the highlights of the event was the turnover and presentation of a topographic map of Lao-ingen Elementary School, which is expected to support the school and local community in planning and disaster preparedness initiatives.
In addition, a series of capacity-building lectures was conducted, focusing on important areas such as Disaster Risk Preparedness, Solid Waste Management, and Health and Sanitation. The lectures facilitated by Engr. Romel San Diego Jr., Engr. Marjorie Barcena and Engr. Yvonne Angelyn Alias aimed to equip participants with essential knowledge and skills to better respond to environmental and public health concerns.
The activity was spearheaded by the UNP College of Engineering, headed by Dean Dr. Nelia Verzosa, with the support of faculty members who served as speakers and facilitators. Their collaborative efforts ensured the smooth implementation of the outreach program, as well as active participation from the Lao-ingen Elementary School led by Mrs. Florence Lopez.
Through activities like this, UNP continues to strengthen its partnership with local communities and schools while promoting sustainable development, safety awareness, and improved quality of life for its partner beneficiaries.
