The Engineering Department Students’ Association (EDSA) of the University of Northern Philippines–College of Engineering emerged as one of the nation’s Outstanding Clubs for UNESCO 2025 under the Science Category, earning prestigious recognition during the Opening Ceremony of the International Assembly of Youth for UNESCO 2025.
Held on November 21 at Forest Crest Nature Hotel and Resort in Nasugbu, Batangas, the event convened youth delegates and UNESCO-accredited organizations from across the country to celebrate excellence, innovation, and global citizenship.
Selected from more than 250 accredited Clubs for UNESCO nationwide, EDSA was distinguished by the National Coordinating Body of Clubs for UNESCO in the Philippines (NCBCUP) Awards Committee for its outstanding dedication to advancing science education, fostering youth empowerment, and driving community development. The recognition underscores the association’s passion, leadership, and sustained commitment to meaningful, impact-driven initiatives.
Under the guidance of adviser Engr. Charlaign Kate Gumasing and College Dean Dr. Nelia Verzosa, the COE’s Engineering Department Students’ Association (EDSA) has continually spearheaded a range of innovative and impactful programs. These include STEM outreach initiatives, environmental sustainability campaigns, engineering literacy projects, and collaborative efforts with various community partners. Together, these endeavors emphasize the association’s firm commitment to UNESCO’s mission of promoting accessible education, scientific engagement, and youth empowerment.
The EDSA delegation was composed of student leaders John Adrielle Donato, Rodney Florendo, Joebert Nuñez, Prince Nathaniel Regua, Monique Viloria, Ronell Cabanela, Juliana May Antiporda, and Parker Jacob Aquino, who represented the university during the conference. Their engagement showcased the association’s active role in national and international youth platforms, where Filipino engineering students contribute to dialogue on science-driven solutions, innovation, and responsible global citizenship.
This achievement stands as a milestone for the UNP College of Engineering, reaffirming its longstanding culture of excellence and highlighting the capability of its students to influence wider communities through purposeful, science-centered initiatives.
