The College of Health Sciences of the University of Northern Philippines, conducted a basic rescue training on splinting and carries in November 2024 at Barangay Nagsincaoan as part of its continuing extension initiatives.
The activity forms part of the memorandum of agreement between UNP and Barangay Nagsincaoan, which obliges the University to conduct training on disaster risk reduction and management, basic life support, basic first aid and rescue operations. The MOA also covers the conduct of health, technological, educational, economic, and business management training programs, as well as capability-building activities for barangay officials and residents.
The training equipped participants with essential skills in emergency response, particularly in immobilizing fractures through splinting and performing different types of carries in rescue situations. These are vital competencies in ensuring immediate and safe assistance during accidents or disasters.
Present in the activity were UNP College of Health Sciences faculty members Prof. Almira Gonzales, Prof. Lorena Darisan, Dr. Adora Velasco, Dr. Maria Yolanda Aquino, Mr. Jose Unciano, Prof. Leila Bautista, Prof. Vincent Viste, and Prof. Greg Quilana.
Accompanying them were student volunteers Alyssa Cabaña, Carl Gabriel Abuel, Judy Sadial, Hershey Jane Rabit, John Lorence Jamoyot, and Bryan Christopher Ibarra, who assisted in demonstrating rescue techniques and engaging with the community participants.
The training highlights UNP’s sustained commitment to its partner communities by extending its expertise beyond the classroom and supporting grassroots disaster preparedness.
The training was brought to barangay Nagsincaoan, Cabugao through the Office of the Vice President for Research and Extension headed by Dr. Fatima Rocamora.
Also present during the training was Prof. May Evelia Ruadap, University Extension Office Coordinator.
