The University of Northern Philippines, through the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, in cooperation with the Instruction and Faculty Development Office and the UNP Faculty Union, conducted a training-workshop titled “Outcomes-Based Education in Practice: Training-Workshop on Integrating OBE Principles into the Curriculum” on May 2, 2025 at the UNP Tadena Hall.
The event aimed to strengthen the faculty’s ability to design curriculum, instruction, and assessments grounded in Outcomes-Based Education (OBE) principles.
Dr. Erwin Cadorna, UNP President, represented by Mr. Albert Tejero, Vice President for Finance and Administration, delivered his message that the emphasized the importance of aligning the university’s curriculum with output-based instruction. He highlighted that what students learn in the classroom must translate into applicable skills in the industry, bridging academic preparation with real-world demands.
Dr. Rolando Navarro, Vice President for Academic Affairs, in his welcome message, stressed the need to move beyond traditional teaching models. He emphasized that this transformation must start with the educators themselves—by rethinking course outcomes, aligning them with national and institutional goals, and applying strategies that foster critical thinking, creativity, and lifelong learning.
Dr. Luzviminda Relon, Director of the Instruction and Faculty Development Office, presented the rationale and objectives of the workshop.
Dr. Jonathan Macayan, Dean of the Institute for Digital Learning at Mapua University and member of the CHED Technical Panel for General Education, served as the Learning Resource Speaker who discussed three major topics: OBE in Syllabus Design, OBE in Instructional Design, and OBE in Assessment Design. His lectures underscored the importance of aligning learning outcomes with teaching and assessment strategies to produce globally competent graduates.
Faculty members from each academic unit, including the deans, assistant deans, and program heads, actively participated in the workshop. The university’s aim to integrate Outcomes-Based Education principles across disciplines and program levels was highlighted by their cooperative presence.
Dr. Aldrin Jaramilla, President of the UNP Faculty Union, concluded the event with a closing remarks, followed by the awarding of certificates to all participants.
