Four representatives from the University of Northern Philippines, namely Noriel Jay Paino, John Amiel Catura, Russel Jay Fuentesfina, accompanied by Dr. Gilbert Valdez Jr., participated in the Rajamangala University of Technology Rattanakosin (RMUTR) International Youth Camp held from April 22 to 30, 2025 in Salaya, Thailand.
The camp, designed to promote cross-cultural exchange and appreciation, brought together students from various countries to learn, collaborate, and celebrate diversity. Throughout the week, participants engaged in field trips to iconic Thai sites such as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha and the Nitasrattanakosin Exhibition Hall in Bangkok, as well as Ayutthaya for Thai performing arts and local culture. Hands-on workshops in Thai cooking, fruit carving, herbal skin care, silver ring design, and Thai painting provide immersive opportunities for cultural appreciation. Dr. Gilbert Valdez presented Philippine Business Culture and Traditions on the sixth day. His session offered fellow participants valuable insights into Filipino customs, business etiquette, and cultural values, further enriching the camp’s cross-cultural learning environment.
Students showcased their backgrounds through group and country presentations, culminating in a final presentation and closing ceremony on the last day. Evening dinners at local venues offered further opportunities for informal cultural exchange. The camp concluded with departures on April 30, reinforcing international friendship and understanding.
