The University of Northern Philippines achieved notable success at the 4th CHED R1 SHARES Extension Presentation Forum held on December 2, 2025, at Patio Balai, Norte, San Juan, La Union. This regional event, themed “Excellence in Action: Recognizing Outstanding Extension Projects,” provides a platform for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to showcase exemplary community extension initiatives.
UNP earned two 3rd-place awards in highly competitive categories, reinforcing its leadership in social responsibility and community development. In Category A (One-time Implementation), the College of Nursing’s Project Salwad Salun-at (Sappuyot ti Biag, Silnag ti Namnama), presented by Dr. Bernardo Oliber Arde, Jr. and Ms. Jenifer Cabides, was recognized for its relevance and measurable impact on community health.
Meanwhile, the University Research and Development Office’s long-term initiative, Empowering Communities through the Science and Technology Community-Based Farm on Mushroom Production in Ilocos Sur, led by Ms. Maritess Raboy, received 3rd place in Category B (Long-term Implementation). The project was commended for its sustainability, innovation, and long-term viability.
Technical and strategic support came from Mr. Greggie Talingdan (College of Nursing) and Dr. Lloyd Mata, OIC Director of the University Extension Office, with overall guidance from UNP President Dr. Erwin F. Cadorna. This accomplishment reflects UNP’s dedication to delivering responsive, relevant, and sustainable community services, aligning with its institutional goals and core values.
