UNP, Ilocos Sur bring free mental health services to Cervantes, advance community-based care for women

The University of Northern Philippines, in partnership with the Provincial Government of Ilocos Sur, brought free mental health consultations and focused discussions on women’s mental health to Cervantes town on March 25, 2025 advancing efforts to extend psychological services to communities with limited access.

Through the College of Arts and Sciences – BS Psychology Program and the Office of Student Affairs, UNP collaborated with the Provincial Youth Development Office and the Provincial Health Office to mount the outreach initiative as part of the community-based mental health program, “Hear; Here” Mental Health Caravan. The activity aimed to bridge gaps in mental health services by providing direct support, awareness, and early intervention in underserved areas.

The caravan gathered UNP faculty and licensed mental health professionals who volunteered their expertise including psychologists Ms. Alexandria Blake Real-Pisalbo and Mr. Mico Molina with guidance counselor Dr. Marifel Acena. They facilitated consultations and engaged participants in discussions centered on mental wellness, with particular attention to the unique challenges faced by women in accessing care and support.

Anchored on the university’s KALINGA4Psyche: Knowledge and Action for Lifelong Integrated Nurturing and Global Access to Mental Health initiative, the program highlighted UNP’s continuing commitment to community engagement and psychosocial well-being.

The collaboration with provincial offices further reinforced a shared goal of making mental health services more inclusive, accessible, and responsive to the needs of local communities.
