The University of Northern Philippines joined the 2025 ASEAN Month Celebration, demonstrating support for the international initiative of the member countries.
Dressed in vibrant, ASEAN-inspired attire for a festive atmosphere, UNP officials, faculty, and staff launched the celebration on August 4, 2025 after the University flag raising ceremony. The event was held following Proclamation No. 282, series of 2018, which amended Proclamation No. 1008, series of 1972, mandating the annual observance. The month-long celebration includes ASEAN Day on August 8, which commemorates the founding anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
The ASEAN-inspired attire today is also in observance of Civil Service Commission Memorandum Circular No. 16, series of 2024. The memorandum mandates government officials and employees to wear ASEAN-inspired attire every first Monday of the month. Promoting cultural awareness, regional identity, and the use of indigenous fabrics in government institutions. This observance underscores the Philippines’ commitment to regional cooperation and integration across the political-security, economic, and socio-cultural pillars.
Throughout August, UNP will hold various activities aligned with the regional theme of “Inclusivity and Sustainability.” This year’s national theme is “BUWAN NG ASEAN: Sama-Sama sa Pag-unlad” (ASEAN Month: Together for Progress), emphasizing collective growth and development. The University’s participation highlights its commitment to fostering regional cooperation and cultural awareness among its community.
