UNP kicks off Panangpasangbay for second semester

The University of Northern Philippines, through the Guidance and Counseling Services (GCS) under the Student Welfare Services Office (SWSO) of the Office of Student Affairs and Services (OSAS), successfully launched the Panangpasangbay: General Orientation Program for new undergraduate, graduate, and College of Open and Distance Education students, including transferees, shifters, second coursers, and returnees. Held on January 15, 20, and 24, 2026, the series supports students’ smooth transition into university life by orienting them on the institution’s history, vision, mission, key officials, faculty, support services, and academic policies.

The undergraduate orientation on January 15 at the GCS Psycho-Educational Area featured Dr. Marifel Acena, SWSO Head, welcoming students and stressing the program’s role in adjustment and service utilization. Audio-visual aids highlighted university services. Dr. Marsha Michelle Cabuena, University Hospital Administrator, presented hospital offerings, including PhilHealth YAKAP. Ms. Krystal Gale Senica, Laboratory Schools Counselor, outlined OSAS structure. Mr. Arnold Pio, Assistant Head of Student Discipline Services, covered discipline policies. Student Regent Hon. Jake Axel Tacadena was represented by SC Secretary-General Ms. Cailin Ayn Laurente.

For College of Open and Distance Education (CODE) students, the virtual session on January 20 included guidance from Ms. Kathlene Mae De Castro. Ms. Charlene Calbero discussed OSAS mandates. Dr. Dolores Bersamina, Academic Dean, covered policies; Dr. Wilson Tolio, Assistant Dean, introduced faculty. Dr. Acena closed, affirming support for distance learners.

Graduate students’ orientation on January 24 at Tadena Hall began with VP for Academic Affairs Dr. Rolando Navarro challenging them to stay focused. University Registrar Mr. Robinson Tolio, represented by Ms. Laarnie Roque, reviewed policies. Dr. Erwin Tolbe addressed business program concerns. An open forum tackled requirements, leaves, and dissertations. Dr. Acena closed with appreciation.

Facilitated by GCS personnel, these orientations underscore UNP’s commitment to inclusive student welfare and holistic development.
