UNP launches heritage safeguarding initiative in Licuan-Baay, Abra

Architects and students from the University of Northern Philippines (UNP) College of Architecture launched a heritage safeguarding initiative on December 2 in Licuan-Baay, Abra through a coordination meeting and needs assessment aimed at documenting and supporting the conservation of traditional houses in the municipality.

The initiative covers residential structures in the poblacion area, some of which date back to the 1700s and 1800s, and brings together UNP faculty and students, local government representatives, and members of the Indigenous People community to align objectives and identify documentation requirements.

The project forms part of a university extension effort focused on establishing baseline architectural and structural records and documenting indigenous building knowledge to support future conservation planning, academic research, and local development initiatives in coordination with the local government of Licuan-Baay.
