UNP marks founder’s 115th birth anniversary with lecture on academic rights

In celebration of the 115th birth anniversary of Floro S. Crisologo, founder of the University of Northern Philippines, the university held a lecture series titled “Between Law and Lore: Advancing Academic Rights through Jurisprudence for Inclusive Higher Education” at the UNP Gymnasium.

The event honored Crisologo’s enduring legacy while highlighting the university’s commitment to academic freedom and legal awareness in higher education.

The event started with a Eucharistic Celebration, followed by a formal program attended by faculty members and administrators.

Dr. Rolando B. Navarro, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Chair of the Special Lecture Series, welcomed participants and emphasized the importance of safeguarding academic rights to create inclusive and empowered learning environments.

UNP President Dr. Erwin F. Cadorna followed with a message underscoring the value of legal awareness and compassion in academic leadership,

The lecture was delivered by Atty. Kent Alvin Guzman, DPA, Public Attorney III from the Public Attorney’s Office in Cabugao, Ilocos Sur. He discussed issues such as academic freedom, educator responsibilities, promotion-related matters, and legal concerns in administrative functions, offering practical, rights-based insights on academic governance.

Dr. Remedios T. Navarro, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, closed the program with a message of gratitude and a call for continued dialogue on academic rights and mental health as essential components of inclusive education.
