UNP Midwifery Faculty leads Community Campaign on Maternal and Child Nutrition

The College of Health Sciences strengthened its commitment to maternal and child health through Project Ina at Anak: Community-Based Maternal and Child Health Empowerment, held on September 5, 2025, at Manueva, Santa, Ilocos Sur. The campaign aimed to equip mothers with practical knowledge on nutrition and safe feeding practices for infants and young children.

The activity brought together faculty extensionists who shared expertise on key topics. Ms. Jevie Abella of the University Extension Office discussed the Philippine Milk Code (EO 51), emphasizing its role in safeguarding breastfeeding practices. Dr. Gerly Mark Redoble clarified common myths and facts about breastfeeding, while Ms. Lowie Lynette Basconcillo and Ms. Geraldine Palomares provided practical guidance on feeding preterm infants in community settings. Completing the set of discussions, Ms. Teodora Rita Soliven and Mr. Bhert Keane Pugrad highlighted maternal and child nutrition, food preparation, and safe food handling.

Mothers from the community actively participated in the learning sessions, engaging with the speakers and sharing their own experiences. The interactive format allowed for both education and dialogue, ensuring that the lessons could be applied in their daily lives.

Project Ina at Anak reflects UNP’s continuing thrust in extension services, aligning with the university’s role in advancing public health and community empowerment.
