The University of Northern Philippines kicked off its 2025 Inter-Color Games on October 13 at the UNP Grounds, officially opening the weeklong celebration of the University’s Foundation Week from October 13 to 19. Now marking six decades of unity, team spirit, and sportsmanship, this year’s festivities—held under the theme “60 Years of Unity: A Legacy of Team Spirit, Celebrating Decades of Togetherness and Sportsmanship”—bring together students, faculty, and staff for a vibrant showcase of athletic excellence, camaraderie, and community pride.
UNP President Dr. Erwin F. Cadorna, in his inspirational message, highlighted that being a true champion goes beyond winning medals or trophies. “Genuine champions are not only those who emerge victorious but also those who inspire others during the competition,” he said. Dr. Cadorna reminded the participants that the true value of sports lies in character, teamwork, and perseverance. He encouraged everyone to embrace every game as an opportunity to grow, to learn from both triumphs and defeats, and to strengthen the bonds that unite the UNP community. His message resonated with the theme of the celebration, emphasizing that the real victory is found in inspiring others and upholding the ideals of unity, discipline, and sportsmanship.
The festivities kicked off with a vibrant grand parade of delegates in the afternoon, setting an atmosphere of excitement and camaraderie across the university grounds. This was followed by an inspiring opening program that brought together students, faculty, and guests in a celebration of unity and school spirit. The audience was treated to heartfelt performances of the UNP Hymn by the UNP Chorale, filling the venue with pride and nostalgia. Dr. Mariano Avila, Director of the Office of Student Affairs and Services (OSAS), formally opened the event with his welcome remarks, highlighting the significance of the occasion. Adding color and cultural flair to the celebration, the Dangday Sariritt Cultural Dance Troupe and the Department of Physical Education faculty captivated the crowd with a dynamic and graceful presentation that showcased the rich heritage and artistic talent of the UNP community.
Hon. Nestor Pajaro, President of the UNP-Federated Alumni Associations (UNP-FAA), also shared an inspiring message during the event. He emphasized that sports serve as a vital arena for cultivating discipline, teamwork, and integrity—core values that mold not only athletes but the leaders of the future. Pajaro underscored that the playing field is more than just a venue for competition; it is a training ground for life itself. Through discipline, one learns consistency; through teamwork, unity is strengthened; and through integrity, character is fortified. These lessons, he said, transcend the boundaries of sports, laying the groundwork for leadership, resilience, and ethical decision-making in every aspect of life.
Guest of honor and speaker PLt. Edgar Jean C. Corpuz—a proud UNP alumnus and former track and field varsity athlete—delivered an inspiring message that resonated with both athletes and spectators alike. Drawing from his own experiences, he reminded everyone of the values that sports instil: perseverance, discipline, and the relentless pursuit of excellence.
PLt. Corpuz inspired the crowd as he emphasized the value of embodying the UNP spirit of METHOD—Mindset, Eagerness, Time Management, Humility, Opportunity, and Discipline—as a lifelong approach to both sports and leadership. He emphasized that success is not achieved overnight but built through consistency, perseverance, and respect both on and off the field.
“Embracing the UNP spirit of METHOD means playing the long game and leading with respect,” he shared. “Strive for progress, work hard on your craft, and let discipline guide you.”
He went on to stress that what truly sets champions apart is not mere talent, but the daily grind—the courage to improve, the humility to learn, and the discipline to persist. “Talent opens doors, but discipline keeps you inside,” he powerfully reminded the audience, encapsulating the enduring truth that greatness stems from small, consistent efforts over time.
Ms. Lizave Reyes, a National SCUAA Lawn Tennis Gold Medalist, led the Oath of Amateurism, embodying both excellence and integrity in sports. Her role underscored the true essence of athleticism—where champions are not only defined by medals but by the values they uphold: fair play, respect, and honor in every competition.
Following the oath-taking was a grand field demonstration featuring over 3,000 PATHFit103 students. More than a showcase of synchronized movement, the performance became a dynamic display of unity, energy, and school pride. Each precise formation and coordinated step reflected discipline and teamwork—proof that individual commitment can lead to collective harmony.
Beyond its visual spectacle, the field demonstration captured the collaborative spirit that defines the UNP community. It served as a living reminder that when thousands move with one rhythm and one purpose, they create not just a performance, but an inspiring expression of passion, fitness, and shared identity.
From October 14 to 19, the campus will host a series of competitive sporting events, highlighting the spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship among students. Special attractions include the Dance Sports Competition on October 18 and the Zumba Competition on October 19, organized by Mr. Mark Christian Palo and the Student Council.
The celebration will culminate with a closing program on October 19, 2025, featuring the awarding of winners and closing remarks to wrap up the week-long festivities.
Through organized sports, friendly competition, and a proud tradition of excellence, the UNP Inter-Color Games continue to strengthen unity and school pride. With colorful banners, lively performances, and spirited participation from every unit, the 2025 celebration stands as a lasting testament to the University of Northern Philippines’ enduring legacy of teamwork, togetherness, and triumph.
