The University of Northern Philippines formalized a partnership with San Isidro Elementary School through the signing of a memorandum of agreement (MOA) on March 26, 2026, reinforcing its commitment to community engagement and public service.
UNP President Dr. Erwin Cadorna and Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Superintendent Dr. Joel Lopez signed MOA witnessed by representatives from both institutions, including Dr. Lloyd Mata, Director of the University Extension Office.
The agreement outlines a wide range of extension services to be delivered by the university, including the provision of medical and dental care for students and teachers, information drives and advocacy programs, and various training initiatives. These include skills development, technology transfer, livelihood projects, and capacity-building activities. The university also committed to conduct trainings on disaster risk reduction and management, basic life support, first aid, and rescue operations, and seminars in health, education, technology, and business management.
In turn, San Isidro Elementary School will provide policy guidance to ensure effective implementation of the programs, coordinate closely with UNP, and promote the application of knowledge and skills gained from the initiatives. The school also pledged to maintain and properly utilize equipment and resources which may be provided, as well as sustain established projects.
As an initial step in the partnership, a team of UNP personnel led by Dr. Shareen Navarro, with assistance from Mr. Rhesty Tabalno, conducted an inspection and repair of the school’s computer units to ensure functionality. Pupils and teachers also participated in a “Safe Spaces” lecture delivered by Mr. Johnny Allagadan Jr.
The activity was facilitated by Illah Diva Faypon and Ms. Karen Calaycay and organized under the Office of the Vice President for Research and Extension headed by Dr. Fatima Rocamora, through the University Extension Office. Coordination efforts were led by Prof. May Evelia Ruadap, University Extension Coordinator, and Dr. Eileen Paculan, Extension Coordinator of the College of Business Administration and Accountancy.
The partnership shows UNP’s continuing efforts to extend its expertise beyond the campus and contribute to the development of partner communities through sustainable and inclusive programs.
