Strengthening its internationalization efforts, the University of Northern Philippines joins the Third Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) Conference and We Demand FASHION 2025, organized by San Pedro College and co-hosted by Davao del Sur State College held at the Philomene Labrecque Hall, San Pedro College, Davao City, from March 13-14, 2025.
The event was attended by State Universities and Colleges from different parts of the Philippines, signifying the nationwide interest in advancing internationalization within higher education.
Representing the university, Dr. Winnie Caliboso, Coordinator for Student and Personnel Mobility of UNP’s International Affairs and External Linkages Office, joined the two-day event, which focused on strengthening global collaboration and innovation in education.
The conference featured a lineup of international speakers who shared their expertise on various aspects of COIL and internationalization. The Director for SUNY COIL Center, New York, USA, Dr. Hope Windle highlighted the importance of establishing COIL in institutions and building a strong COIL community. Dr. Stephanie Doscher, Assistant Vice Provost for Curriculum, Internationalization at the University of Minnesota, talked about strategic global learning and internationalization within academic settings.
Moreover, Dr. Mira Kartiwi, Director for the Centre for Professional Development at the International Islamic University Malaysia, addressed professional development through online collaboration, emphasizing its role as a teaching and learning innovation. Dr. Noz Zainiyah Norita Binti Mokhtar, Assistant Professor at IIUM Pagoh Campus, Kulliyah of Sustainable Tourism and Contemporary Languages, spoke on the crucial role of intercultural communications and international collaboration initiatives. Aleli Saavedra, MBE, CMITAP, Assistant Professor at San Pedro College, provided insights into COIL course design input and workshops.
The event underscored the growing importance of international collaboration in higher education and the potential of COIL in enhancing student learning experiences. UNP’s participation, alongside that of other SUCs from across the nation, highlights the collective commitment to being a globally competitive university.
