The University of Northern Philippines, through the Office of the Vice President for Research and Extension, the University Extension Office, the Office of Student Affairs and Services, and the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), conducted a comprehensive extension activity at Dr. Ricardo Gacula Memorial National High School on February 13, 2025.
The initiative was organized in response to a formal request from the school led by Principal Dr. Analyn Galanto emphasizing the institution’s commitment to strengthen partnerships with local schools and supporting holistic student development.
A key highlight of the activity was the continuation of a professional development session for teachers delivered by Dr. Christian Gea Florentino, Program Head of BS Psychology. Building on her earlier session held on February 6, Dr. Florentino deepened the discussion on practical strategies to promote students’ emotional well-being and implement effective behavior interventions in the classroom. Teachers actively participated in the session, gaining insights on fostering supportive learning environments and addressing behavioral concerns with empathy and structure.
Simultaneously, students attended a series of values formation and discipline-oriented lectures. Mr. Jeffrey Valencia, Assistant Head of Scholarship and Financial Assistance Services, spoke on “Building Strong Values Towards a Positive Habit,” emphasizing the role of character formation and personal responsibility in achieving academic and life success. His lecture encouraged students to cultivate discipline, integrity, and perseverance in their daily routines.
Following this, Mr. Arnold Pio, Asst. Head, Student Discipline Services/Human Rights and Drug Education Services, delivered a presentation on “Promoting Responsible Behavior: Student Conduct and Discipline in Schools.” The session reinforced the importance of accountability, respect for school policies, and active participation in creating a safe and orderly learning environment.
The activity was facilitated by Dr. Benjie Gapate, Head of the Institutional Student Services Office; Mr. Froilan Unciano, Assistant Head for Social Community Involvement and Multi-faith Services; and Mr. Lester Aaron. Mr. Stephen Tabios, CAS Extension Coordinator, assisted in facilitating the session for teachers, ensuring a smooth and engaging discussion.
Overall coordination of the event was led by Prof. May Evelia Ruadap, University Extension Coordinator, whose efforts ensured the successful implementation of the outreach program. Through initiatives like this, UNP continues to strengthen its extension services by empowering educators and students alike, reinforcing its mission to contribute meaningfully to community development and educational advancement.
